Agony for Julian Assange, the third decision on whether to be issued in the US

Britain will announce tomorrow Tuesday (26/03/2024) whether to grant its founder the right of a last appeal against his extradition to the United States, where he is being prosecuted for a massive paper leak. After a two-day hearing in February, two London Supreme Court judges, Victoria Sharp and Jeremy Johnson, are expected to announce their decision on WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange. In particular, they are expected to decide whether or not they grant the 52 year old Australian the right to appeal its extradition to the US, which the British government accepted in June 2022. In case of defeat, Julian Assange will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights in hopes of suspending his extradition, according to his wife Stella Assange. American justice prosecutes Julian Assange for publishing since 2010 more than 700,000 classified documents on US military and diplomatic activities, particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan. WikiLeaks’ founder is at risk with a sentence of 175 years in this case that has been assigned to a symbol of threats against press freedom. In the last few weeks, familiars of Julian Assange, who has been detained for five years in the Belmars maximum security prison in London, are warning of his worsening health. His defense has also warned of the risk of suicide in case of extradition.
