Afghanistan: Suicide Attack in front of Bank, At least 20 Dead · Global Voices

At least 20 people were killed in front of a bank in Kandahar City, a Taliban stronghold in southern Afghanistan. “Today (21.03.2024) in the morning a suicide attack took place in front of the New Bank of Kandahar, three people were killed and 12 injured”, Inamullah Samangani, director of Afghanistan’s Information and Culture Service, had announced earlier today. “The victims are civilians,” the official explained, noting that the attack targeted people who had gone to the bank to get their salary. The number of bombings and suicide attacks in Afghanistan has declined significantly since August 2021 when the Taliban returned to power. However, a number of armed organizations, mainly the jihadist Islamic State, still pose a threat.
