Aegina: Water supply is restored on the island, the underwater pipeline is reopened

In re-operation the underwater water was put into , as the damage caused a couple of months ago was repaired. However, it remains essential to determine whether water is suitable for how much. The contractor involved in the repair – as the prosecutor’s finding referred to a failure of material, clearly showing the side of the construction company – informed district chief Attiki Nikos Kardalia, that due to the holiday of 25 March the workshop examining water samples was closed. As noted, since the relevant sample is given by the Municipality of Aegina today, the results of chemical analyses will be available tomorrow, and those of biological analyses on the following Tuesday, April 2nd. Therefore, until the measurements of quality control were made public, the Municipality of Aegina decided that water should be used by residents exclusively for domestic uses. It is recalled that the immediately preceding 24 hours, divers engaged in cleaning the seawater inside the pipeline, tightened the screws and proceeded to the assembly process of the special piece needed in order to restore water supply on the island. “We shrinked the time and took all the necessary steps to keep all the protocols, calling on the contractor to comply with his obligations in full,” they stressed partners of Nikos Hardalias, adding that the district chief of Attica has been following the issue since the first moment, on a daily basis, taking all necessary initiatives, at the very least possible time. “We are now waiting for the Municipality of Aegina to analyse this so that water can come back to the houses of Aegina safely. It goes without saying that all the necessary, strict standards must be complied with,” they stressed.
