AEGEAN: Extension of a Sustainable Air Fuel Use Programme (SAF) to Europe’s flights and airports

The Sustainable Air Fuel Use Program (SAF) on its flights and on Europe’s flights extends . As stated in its communication “AEGEAN joins forces with one of the world’s leading air fuel suppliers, Shell, through the Greek consortium with Motor Oil, Shell and MOH Aviation and ensures the supply of a significant amount of SAF blend at Stockholm Airport Arlanda and London Heathrow to facilitate its network functions.” These actions reflect the company’s practical commitment to more sustainable transport and mark the start of the gradual expansion of the company’s sustainable fuel use programme across its network, while creating the necessary conditions for the timely adaptation of the company and our country to the EU targets for the green transition to air transport. Dimitris Geroyannis, CEO of AEGEAN said: “Our partnership with Shell & MOH Aviation, our leading company and stable partner for years, allows us to make our decision to gradually expand the SAF program to our flights and from the airports of the international network operated by AEGEAN. It is a commitment of our company and our people, the reduction of our environmental footprint, as much as our activity and our economic footprint will increase and this new cooperation we have just announced, they are doing it.” For his part, Stamatis Petsis, CEO of Shell & MOH Aviation said: “We are particularly happy to cooperate with AEGEAN, the largest airline in Greece and one of the largest regional companies in Europe, for the provision of SAF at Arlanda Airport in Stockholm and Heathrow London. This is an excellent initiative that reflects the firm’s commitment and vision to lead the green transition to the aviation sector in Greece and we are pleased that we can contribute to this effort. We hope that this initiative will accelerate the overall progress of the industry in Greece to seek a neutral carbon balance.” It is recalled that as early as July 2022 all flights of the company departing from Macedonia airport in Thessaloniki are supplied with a SAF mixture, while AEGEAN is the first airline to use this type of fuel in a commercial flight in Greece in 2021. In fact, since the end of last year, the company has operated flights with a mixture of SAF and from Gardemen Airport, Oslo, and will soon be extended to other European airports. Shell & MOH Aviation holds a leading position in the air fuel market and aspires to support the long-term sustainability targets of the aviation industry through the provision of sustainable air fuel.
