European Commission, concerning the alteration of the cultural character of Agia Sophia by the Turkish authorities.
With the energy of this Greek mep, highlights further the issue at international level.
Eliza Βόζεμπεργκ mentions in her letter, that in the area of Agia Sofia, a timeless symbol of Orthodox Christianity in Istanbul, a unesco world heritage site and attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world, will broadcast live, during ramadan, the prayers and readings of the qur’an with the result that the decision of the Turkish Authorities to substantially alter the historic character of the monument, turning it into a muslim mosque.
Given that the UNESCO safeguards and promotes the world cultural heritage, with the disclosure of the matter Eliza Βόζεμπεργκ asks to be taken directly initiatives, in order to protect fully the historical character of the Agia Sofia and to keep the museum open for the general public.
