A first look at Neue Klaasse in SAV version: BMW Vision Neue Klaasse X

A new Vision Vehicle by Group offers a preview of Neue Klaasse in SAV version: BMW Vision Neue Klaasse X introduces Neue Klaasse’s aesthetics, technology, sustainability and philosophy into the Sports Activity Vehicles category. The first purely electrically elevated variant based on new architecture will begin to be produced at the Debretsen plant in Hungary in 2025. “Along with BMW Vision Neue Klasse, BMW Vision Neue Klasse”. X highlights the range of future BMW models. Neue Klasse reflects the variety of all models customers want today and in the future – from sports sedan, with all variants, to the modern SAV family,” says Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the BMW AG Board of Directors. “In this way, we stress that Neue Klasse is more than just a car or a special prototype. It comes to redefine the BMW brand and at the same time is a representative BMW more than ever.” The company presented its vision for the future of the brand in the category of sedan cars with BMW Vision Neue Klaasse in the mobility report IAA 2023. The latest Vision Vehicle now depicts how BMW sees the future of its X models. BMW Vision Neue Klaasse X symbolizes an active lifestyle and an efficient dynamic, with a confident appearance. The pure design language that characterizes its outer surfaces is combined with a bright and spacious interior. The special lighting and sound effects provided by the next generation of BMW iDrive enhance the intuitive digital user experience. The three main features of Neue Klaasse – electrical, digital and circular – extend here to include a fourth dimension. The driving pleasure that is the core of the BMW brand passes to the next level with control for the drive system and the frame developed specifically for Neue Klaasse and with the help of the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology. Its sustainability philosophy also ensures responsible production, operation, dismantling and recycling. Innovative control for the transmission system and chassis A new type of control for the drive system and chassis offers a higher driving experience that adapts to individual needs. It is based on a new software stack developed internally by the BMW Group and guarantees smooth driving in all conditions. The two of the four new super-brains will transfer driving experience to Neue Klaasse to a new dimension. “Neue Klaasse means driving BMW at even higher levels”, explains Frank Weber, a member of the BMW AG Board of Directors, in charge of Development. “The BMW of the future will have four completely new super-brains. In other words, high-performance computers that will intelligently cooperate in elements that have so far been processed independently. We developed the first super-brain completely internally. He incorporates the entire drive system and dynamic driving with up to ten times greater computing power. The second super-brain will allow the next quantum jump in automated driving”, continues Weber. “In the future, we will combine four key control units on a high performance computer. The result will be more dynamic performance, more precision, more efficiency and even more enjoyable driving.” Design: BMW X is redefined with strong features Combined with the design of two volumes of a BMW X model, the simple design language developed for Neue Klaasse is also an important leap forward in both external and internal design. With increased ground clearance, the vehicle’s purely electric architecture offers new possibilities for an even more spacious interior. It allows the creation of a body with long wheelbase, short projectors and classic BMW ratios. The large surfaces of the windows and the panoramic glass ceiling flood the interior with natural light, creating an airy atmosphere and a sense of spaciousness that is enhanced using fabrics in warm colors. “The BMW Vision Neue Klasse News”. X enables for a first look at Neue Klaasse X models. The same principles apply to Sport Activity Vehicles: electrical, digital and circular,” comments Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design. “X models will maintain their strong character: with compact single shape, clean and with a very characteristic vertical interpretation of BMW’s light signature”. The brand’s new appearance for BMW X models also contributes to the strong presence of Vision Vehicle. Vertically aligned LED units offer a new interpretation of BMW’s characteristic light signature. In front and center is the kidney mask of the brand, which was redesignated as a 3D sculpture with a vertical layout and illuminated contours. Combined, headlights and kidney mask create a lighting effect that is activated as the driver approaches the vehicle and continues by entering the interior. The back section is powerful and athletic. Lights that reach enough in the centre of the rear are a horizontal interpretation of the well-known, L-shaped, BMW lighting bodies. The three-dimensional printed elements of the rear are individually controlled with variable light intensity to carry a highly expressive feeling of depth. The smooth glass surfaces and the light outer paint “Coral Silver” give BMW Vision Neue Klaasse X a light feel. In the back of the side windows, the feature for the Hofmeister kink brand is not bounded by chromium elements, but formed by a reflective element forming a transparent or reflective surface, depending on the angle of view. BMW eDrive Technology: The sixth generation more efficient than ever In Neue Klaasse, the overall efficiency of the vehicle reaches new levels. The last, sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology is the key to it. In addition to the improved e-drive units, it also features new and more cylindrical lithium ion batteries cells, with a volumetric energy density higher than over 20% compared to that of the prismatic cells previously used. Combined with switching to an 800 volt electric system, this will improve the charging speed by up to 30% – allowing vehicles to charge in just 10 minutes to ensure 300 km autonomy. The sixth generation of BMW eDrive also offers up to 30% greater autonomy. BMW Vision Neue Klaasse X also impresses with its aerodynamics, having resistance reduced by 20% compared to a comparable model of the current range. The new tyre designs as well as the special braking system for pure electric vehicles contribute to an increase in overall vehicle efficiency of up to 25%.
