5 of the strangest border in the world

Their usefulness concerns mainly the geographical delimitation of countries, in order to distinguish clearly between them, either with defined lines (e.g. fences), or with areas which were militaryly reinforced to protect one state from its neighbour. Moreover, with the aim of controlling the transit of people and goods from one state to another, even airports and ports are defined as borders. However, there are some particular borders, which are striking, since they are unusual. So let’s see the strangest five borders in the world: Spain – Morocco Penon de Velez de la Gomera is a small rock in the west of the Mediterranean, located on the coast of Morocco, about 100 meters from the African mainland. He is also connected to a smaller island to the east, Isleta. It is the smallest Spanish territory and has a population of just 60 Spanish soldiers. The “sea fortress” is a remnant of the Spanish presence in North Africa, which dates back to the 15th century. The border between Penon De Velez de la Gomera and Morocco is the shortest land border in the world, with a length of just 86 meters, while including a fence and a gate, guarded by Spanish soldiers. There are also Spanish and Moroccan naval vessels here, since the strategic position of the peninsula has been a source of tension for centuries between the two countries. Argentina – Brazil – Paraguay The “triple border” (Spanish: Triple Frontera, Portuguese: Triple Fronteira) is a junction that unites Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, where Iguazu and Parana rivers converge. Near the confluence are the cities of Puerto Iguazu (Argentina), Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil) and Ciudad del Este (Parguay). The area is located near Iguazu Falls and Itaipu hydroelectric plant. Poland – Ukraine In Horodyszcze there are two giant fish that unite Poland with Ukraine. The impressive work was inspired by Polish artist Jaroslaw Koziara, using 23 different species of plants as a symbol of unity between the two countries, but also to show that borders do not divide cultures. Austria – Hungary – Slovakia A triangular bench picnic table is the spot where the border between Austria, Hungary and Slovakia meets. The table with the flags of these countries is located in the sculpture park (Szoborpark), where various artists have created 12 works of art—including an obelisk, where each side “sees” the respective country—to mark the inextricable bonds of friendship between the three countries, after the fall of the Soviet Union. Spain – Portugal The world’s first cross-border zip line is between Spain and Portugal (720 meters). Extreme sports lovers have the ability to experience a unique experience and to go from one country to another within a few seconds crossing the Guadiana River, and is also seen as a “travel in time”, since the zones hours between the two countries are different.
