New details have emerged in the extortion case involving a journalist from Volos, as revealed by Zetta Makri, a member of the Hellenic Parliament from New Democracy, on Saturday (05.07.2025). Speaking during an interview on MEGA’s show ‘Exelixeis Tora’ hosted by Natasha Yiamali, Makri recounted how she was targeted by a local journalist who allegedly attempted to extort her.

The journalist, who runs a news website and a radio station, was arrested while in possession of 5,000 euros in marked banknotes that Makri had handed over following coordination with police in Volos. According to Makri, the journalist claimed he could help her avoid negative press coverage. She stated that she knew him personally, noting that Volos is a small city where they previously maintained good relations.

“He is only three years younger than my son, and this incident deeply hurt me,” said Makri. “However, his behavior left me no choice. I chose to act legally and in cooperation with the police authorities. The reason I came forward is to prove that not all journalists are the same. This is an exception, not the rule.”

Her decision to go public highlights the importance of transparency and accountability within media circles and serves as a warning against abuse of journalistic power.
