Zelenskyy’s ‘Thank You’ at the Summit: ‘The Ukrainian People Are Not Alone’

The message that the Ukrainian people are not alone was conveyed by President Zelenskyy during his address today (06.03.2025) at the emergency Summit in Brussels. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, was welcomed by European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Leaders from the 27 EU member states gathered in Brussels with European defense and the Ukraine issue as the main agenda topics. However, concerns remain: “Some fear that involving countries with wavering stances could derail efforts to shape a peace plan acceptable to both Kyiv and Washington.” Amidst these challenges, Zelenskyy thanked the EU countries for their “strong support since the beginning of the war in Ukraine” and emphasized that “the Ukrainian people are not alone,” as “your message is strong, to the Ukrainian people and the fighters on the frontlines.” European Council President Costa stated that decisions are expected today to strengthen European defense, which will also bolster Ukraine’s defense. “We are here to support Ukraine for a fair, comprehensive, and sustainable peace,” he said. Meanwhile, Ursula von der Leyen spoke about a critical turning point for Europe. “Europe must be able to protect itself and defend itself. In the same way, we must put Ukraine in a position to protect itself,” she noted, highlighting the ‘European Re-Armament Plan,’ presented by the Commission two days ago, which could unlock up to €800 billion.
