In a shocking revelation on June 23, 2025, the Ukrainian newspaper ‘Kyiv Post’ reported that two Ukrainian generals working for the State Guard (UDO), tasked with protecting Ukraine’s top officials, were secretly working for Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) and planned to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to SBU chief Vasyl Maluyk, last year, one of the arrested individuals was the head of a department within UDO, while another general was also detained. Both were found to be FSB operatives. The plot involved recruiting insiders to kill Zelenskyy inside his Presidential Office in Kyiv. “It was an extremely complex operation on our part,” Maluyk explained, noting that they infiltrated the group using agents over nearly two years since the start of the Russian invasion. Another assassination attempt was uncovered in Poland, where a retired Polish military officer was recruited by Russia to eliminate Zelenskyy at Rzeszów airport using FPV drones or a sniper. Additionally, Russian intelligence has been gathering information and planning attacks against other key figures like GUR chief Kyrylo Budanov and Maluyk himself.
