Zelenskyy: ‘Red Line’ on Territorial Concessions – Russia Seeks to Sow Discord Between USA and Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a press conference today (13.02.2025) in Kyiv, commenting on the lengthy negotiations between Ukrainian and Russian officials that took place yesterday (11.03.2025) in Saudi Arabia. Zelenskyy praised the talks with the USA as ‘constructive,’ emphasizing that the ceasefire proposal accepted by Ukraine for 30 days is a good opportunity aimed at achieving sustainable and lasting peace. He stated: ‘We need to discuss in greater detail whether we will have a 30-day ceasefire. This time should be used to address certain issues on paper,’ referring to a potential peace plan that could include security guarantees. He added that ‘everyone’ should work together to compel Russia to accept peace. Regarding a second invitation to the White House to meet Donald Trump, Zelenskyy said he had not heard anything but highlighted the resumption of military aid and intelligence sharing from the USA as a ‘very positive step.’ The president also mentioned readiness to sign a framework agreement with the USA regarding Ukrainian minerals and clarified that elections in Ukraine will only occur after the lifting of martial law. Zelenskyy emphasized ‘no territorial concessions to Russia,’ stating that no Russian occupation of Ukrainian lands will be recognized: ‘This is our fight for independence. Our people and heroes fought for it.’ Reuters / Valentyn Ogirenko. He continued, stressing this as the most important ‘red line,’ vowing never to let anyone forget this crime against Ukraine. Allies have promised strong initiatives, including sanctions against Russia and military assistance to Ukraine if Moscow refuses to agree. Zelenskyy warned: ‘The Russians will do everything they can to sow discord between Ukraine and the USA. Instead, we are moving towards full de-escalation.’
