Zelenskyy: Preparing for Peace Talks Next Week

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is awaiting further details from the United States regarding upcoming peace negotiations, with new meetings expected next week. ‘We are in constant communication with the U.S. and expect concrete information from them about additional meetings,’ Zelenskyy stated. He added, ‘We are looking ahead to meetings next week and are preparing accordingly.’ His remarks suggest the previously scheduled Sunday, February 1, trilateral meeting in the UAE involving Ukrainian, Russian, and U.S. representatives may be postponed. Meanwhile, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev held ‘constructive’ talks in Florida as part of Washington’s mediation efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Witkoff described the meeting as ‘productive’ and expressed encouragement, stating it signals Russia’s willingness to work toward peace. The U.S. delegation also included Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law. Dmitriev similarly called the discussion ‘constructive’ and noted productive talks on the U.S.-Russia economic working group.
