Zelenskyy on Trump-Putin Talks: ‘We Support Ceasefire on Energy Infrastructure’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump, stating that any conversation about Ukraine without its presence ‘makes no sense.’ However, Zelenskyy expressed support for the U.S. proposal to halt strikes on energy infrastructure for 30 days, a suggestion agreed upon by Putin. ‘Ukraine will support every proposal leading to a stable and fair peace,’ Zelenskyy emphasized. Notably, Trump has yet to brief Zelenskyy on the content of his talks with Putin, but the Ukrainian leader hopes for an upcoming dialogue. Zelenskyy also stressed the importance of Europe’s inclusion in negotiations concerning European security. Regarding Putin’s demands for ending military aid and information exchange, Zelenskyy noted these efforts aim to weaken Kyiv. Despite this, allies remain committed to continuing military assistance. Meanwhile, Russia appears poised for new attacks near Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv, according to Zelenskyy. He also discussed the situation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron post the Trump-Putin talks. A significant gesture of goodwill would be the release of all Ukrainian prisoners of war, as Putin announced a swap of 175 POWs. Although Putin accepted a ceasefire on energy infrastructure, he did not agree to a full ceasefire. Following the call, sirens and explosions were heard in Kyiv, prompting residents to seek shelter due to potential Russian airstrikes.
