Zelenskyy Claims Putin Will Die Soon and Everything Will End

In a widely discussed statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed during a press conference on March 26, 2025, that Vladimir Putin will die soon. This comment came after Zelenskyy’s meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. He stated, “He (Vladimir Putin) will die soon, and this is a fact, and everything will end.” Speculations about Putin’s poor health have been circulating for years. In recent years, the 72-year-old Russian leader has appeared with a pale face, trembling legs, and red eyes, fueling these rumors. A notable incident occurred in 2022 when Putin was seen slouching in his chair and mumbling during a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu. Some suggest he may have cancer or Parkinson’s disease. Zelenskyy also expressed hope that the U.S. and other Western allies of Kyiv would remain strong against Russia’s demands and rhetoric. However, he criticized Washington’s pro-Russian comments, arguing they weaken pressure on Russia and do not bring peace closer. The Ukrainian president gave an interview to European journalists in Paris, ahead of an international conference involving 31 countries committed to supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia. According to Zelenskyy, discussions for a ceasefire were initiated to ensure the U.S. would resume providing assistance and information to Kyiv. Yet, Russia imposed more conditions to adhere to the Black Sea agreement and focused on easing sanctions. “They are setting conditions regarding sanctions on the American side. If America stays strong, we stand on our ground and defend ourselves,” Zelenskyy said. Additionally, he thanked the U.S. for its aid but noted that Washington ‘has been influenced’ by Russian war rhetoric. “We fight for ourselves and will fight against this rhetoric wherever it appears because there is simply no other way,” he emphasized. Zelenskyy accused the American envoy Steve Pifer of echoing Kremlin rhetoric, referring to positive statements about Putin’s intentions. Washington has softened its stance towards Russia recently, with Pifer stating he doesn’t see Putin as a bad guy, which alarmed Europeans. Moreover, the American envoy rejected European efforts to form a coalition to support Ukraine. “I don’t think this brings us closer to peace. Unfortunately, I believe it just weakens American pressure on Russia,” commented Zelenskyy. Since invading Ukraine in February 2022, Russia controls approximately 113,000 square kilometers, roughly 20% of Ukraine, with the front line stretching over 1,000 kilometers.
