The Ukrainian president said today (04/02/2025) ready for direct negotiations with his Russian counterpart and other leaders to end the war initiated by the Kremlin nearly three years ago. Asked by British host Pierce Morgan about the possibility of negotiating with Vladimir Putin, Volodymir Zelensky replied that he would make it “if it were the only way in which we could bring peace to the Ukrainian people and not lose other lives.” CORVERSE In this case, Zelenski said he would accept a meeting with “four participants”, without specifying who they would be. However, presenter Pierce Morgan had earlier mentioned the possibility of negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, the United States and the European Union. The interview given by Ukrainian president Volontim Zelensky was broadcast on the “Piers Morgan Uncesored” channel on YouTube. Donald Trump’s return to the White House revived the scenarios for forthcoming negotiations aimed at ending the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022. CORVERSE Zelenski had repeatedly rejected the prospect of negotiations, arguing that he wanted to win the war with Russia. In a decree he had signed in October 2022 he had ruled out any negotiation with Moscow while Putin is in power. But the Ukrainian army is under enormous pressure from the Russian forces advancing into the eastern part of the country. Kiev is concerned that US aid will stop, as Trump had campaigned these costs. For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin had recently stated that he was ready for negotiations aimed at ending the armed conflict in Ukraine, but rejecting any discussion with his Ukrainian counterpart Volontimir Zelenski who – as said by Kremlin’s powerful man – remains “illegal” in power. Officially, the Kremlin demands that Ukraine be capitulated, renounce its prospect of NATO membership and Russia retain the Ukrainian regions it has announced it annexed.
