Zefyri: Stolen Jewelry Melted in Illegal Foundry, 6 Arrested

An illegal metal foundry was uncovered in Zefyri during a police operation. The criminal ring melted stolen jewelry and sold the recovered metals. Six suspects—including three foreign nationals aged 34, 36, and 43, a 40-year-old Greek man, and two Greek women aged 25 and 34—were arrested across Zefyri, Agioi Anargyroi, and central Athens on January 27, 2026. Authorities seized an electric metal furnace, 18 mobile phones, 98 SIM cards, numerous watches and jewelry pieces, household metalware, a magnifying lens, 42 cartridges, two recording devices, 13 untaxed steam irons, and €4,500. Charges include receiving and disposing of stolen goods, violations of customs and firearms laws, assault on officers, and harboring criminals. The investigation was led by Athens’ Directorate for Crime Suppression and Investigation.
