Starting from scratch for Team Greece, Yiannis Korakidis made his mark at the European Throwing Cup held at GSP Stadium in Nicosia. Korakidis secured the bronze medal in men’s javelin throw (K23 category) with a best throw of 71.08 meters, improving his seasonal record. The world champion K20 from 2022 closed out the competition efforts. He began with a throw of 68.26 meters, placing him fourth. His second attempt reached 67.66 meters and the third was 67.29 meters. On his fourth try, after dropping to fifth place, he lost momentum but tried again, only for the javelin to stop at the stake. The athlete from GS Mandron found strength on his fifth throw to surpass the 70-meter mark by throwing 71.08 meters, securing third place behind the world champion K20 from 2024, Josef Kesidhi (72.96 Cypriot record K23), and Hungarian Miklos Tseko, who achieved a new personal record of 71.54 meters. In the final throw, Swiss Lars Wolfisberg threw far, measuring 71.06 meters, just two hundredths behind Korakidis. The competition concluded with an invalid throw from the Greek athlete. In his last year in the K23 category, Korakidis traveled to Cyprus with a seasonal record of 70.73 meters and a personal record of 75.08 meters from 2024. In women’s javelin throw K23, 22-year-old Eleonora Tsogka competed in the second group of power. She couldn’t achieve her desired throws and finished eighth with a best performance of 44.29 meters (and 16th overall), falling short of her seasonal and personal record of 50.04 meters from the recent Winter Throwing Cup in Heraklion. Meanwhile, Elina Zengko didn’t replicate her performance from two weeks ago when she threw 62.41 meters in Heraklion. In a high-level competition, the 23-year-old athlete from Georgios Botskariou threw 58.87 meters and ranked fourth.
