The television network of Yemen’s Houthi rebels reported late Saturday (March 25, 2023) that strikes had hit the international airport in Hodeidah, located in the western part of the country, blaming the United States for the attacks. Al-Massirah TV described it as an ‘American attack,’ stating that ‘three strikes were carried out against Hodeidah International Airport.’ The Houthis have announced several alleged American attacks on territories under their control following the deadly U.S. airstrikes last Saturday, which Washington claims killed several high-ranking Houthi leaders. Meanwhile, the Houthis reported 53 deaths and 98 injuries. In response to these attacks, Yemeni rebels launched assaults on ‘warships’ from the strike force of the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea using drones and claimed responsibility for missile launches targeting Israel. The aim of the U.S. strikes is reportedly to neutralize Houthi threats in the Red Sea, a crucial maritime area for global trade, where Yemeni rebels have conducted numerous attacks since late 2023, claiming they target ships linked to Israel in solidarity with Palestinians.
