In a special ceremony at the Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEM), Minister Stavros Papastavrou today (3 July 2026) signed the decision to include mainland municipalities and municipal water supply companies in the national Drinking Water Supply and Water Management Programme.
Expanding Access to Safe Drinking Water
This latest step follows earlier approvals for 16 projects—totaling €16.6 million—across nine municipalities in Thessaly, Central Greece, and Eastern Macedonia, as well as 10 additional projects worth €15 million in nine island municipalities.
New Municipalities Added to the Programme
Today’s announcement includes the inclusion of seven municipalities in the programme’s ‘Drinking Water Supply and Water Management’ axis under YPEM’s Sectoral Development Programme:
- Sintiki Municipality (Serres)
- Ziros Municipality (Preveza)
- Pella Municipality
- Naousa Municipality (Imathia)
- Oraiokastro Municipality (Thessaloniki)
- Lagkadas Municipality (Thessaloniki)
- Nea Propontida Municipality (Chalkidiki)
The newly approved interventions—covering parts of Central Macedonia and Epirus—are valued at €10 million, according to Minister Papastavrou.
