‘Worried’ in France about Meta’s decision to stop facto-checking

The Foreign Ministry expressed its “anxiety” for its decision (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) to stop the use of “fact-checking” programs in the US. At the same time, France stressed that it would remain vigilant with regard to respect for European legislation by Meta. “The freedom of expression, a fundamental right protected in France and Europe, cannot be confused with a right to widespread dissemination of content disputed authenticity, which would affect millions of users, without filtering or supervision,” says a representative of the French Foreign Ministry.
