A 58-year-old woman from Sri Lanka has been placed under temporary detention following an altercation with her ex-partner in Thessaloniki, Greece. During questioning at the Third Preliminary Hearing Court, she denied throwing caustic liquid at the 36-year-old man of Bangladeshi origin. However, she was unable to explain how the victim sustained serious injuries, risking the loss of his eye, according to hospital sources where he remains under treatment. The accused claimed that her ex-partner had previously mistreated her during their relationship and alleged that she chased after him because he took her mobile phone. Despite her defense, both the prosecutor and judge decided unanimously to detain her temporarily. Charges against her include attempted severe bodily harm within a domestic context. According to the case file, the incident began Sunday afternoon when the 36-year-old returned from his home country via Macedonia Airport en route to Crete, where he lives and works. He was met by the 58-year-old, with whom he had ended a relationship two years prior. The victim stated that she wanted to reconcile, but after he refused, an argument ensued. To ease tensions, he agreed to visit her home, but another verbal dispute followed. As he left around midnight, the woman allegedly followed him and threw the caustic substance on his face near the building’s entrance. Feeling intense burning, the man sought help at a nearby store.
