Wimbledon: Ashleigh Barty through to Saturday’s women’s singles final

World No 1 Ashleigh Barty became the first Australian to reach the Wimbledon women’s singles final in 41 years after defeating former champion, Angelique Kerber.

Barty’s impressive 6-3 7-6 (7-3) victory over 2018 champion Kerber puts her through to a second Grand Slam final.

“This is incredible. This is as close to as good a tennis match as I’ll ever play. Angie brought the best out of me. I’m incredibly proud of myself and my team” said Barty, whose outfit is a tribute to the one worn by Goolagong for the first of her victories in 1971.
