A wildfire that broke out at noon on Wednesday (18/06/2025) in a forested area in the Kinidaro region of Naxos is intensifying. Initial forces have been reinforced with 33 firefighters, 12 vehicles, a team from the 1st Special Firefighting Unit, and aerial support including four aircraft and two helicopters. Reinforcements are also arriving from Santorini, Paros, Syros, and Piraeus. According to initial reports, the fire started from a rented buggy vehicle which caught fire due to mechanical failure and quickly spread along the slope between the Monastery and Kinidaro. The area’s rugged terrain complicates firefighting efforts. Currently, there is no threat to residential areas, but teams remain fully prepared for any eventuality. Winds in the area are moderate to strong, favoring firefighting efforts so far. Information provided by Naxospress and cyclades24.
