A wildfire broke out in low, dry vegetation above the Koumoundourou Lake within the Xyrogeni military camp in Aspropyrgos, Attica, on Wednesday afternoon, June 24, 2026.
Emergency Response Mobilized
The Hellenic Fire Service responded immediately. According to an official tweet from the Fire Service (@pyrosvestiki), 54 firefighters were deployed, including two infantry teams from the 1st Emergency Response Unit (1st EMODE), along with 20 vehicles, two fixed-wing aircraft, and three helicopters. Local water tankers from municipal authorities also provided support.
On-the-Ground Operations
Additionally, 37 firefighters operating with 10 vehicles and two infantry teams are currently engaged at the site. The fire remains active, with aerial assets actively supporting ground efforts.
