A wildfire broke out on the afternoon of Tuesday, 30 June 2026, in the Kyra Vrysi area near the Corinth Canal. Strong firefighting forces have rushed to the region, where flames are spreading rapidly close to the canal.

Shortly afterward, Greece’s emergency number 112 issued an alert urging residents in the area to remain on standby. The message read: “Forest fire in the Agios Dimitrios area of the Corinth Regional Unit. Remain on standby and follow instructions from authorities.”

A second alert followed, instructing residents of Filothei and Thymariona — two nearby settlements — to evacuate immediately toward Xylokeriza. Authorities emphasized that citizens should strictly follow official guidance.
