A wildfire broke out on Wednesday afternoon (02.07.2025) in the Paralia area of Marathon, Greece. The fire is currently burning through reeds and low vegetation near homes and businesses, prompting an emergency response from local authorities. Alarms were raised at the fire department, leading to a rapid deployment of resources.
At the scene, 56 firefighters, including two groups of ground crews and 18 vehicles, are actively working to contain the blaze. Three helicopters are conducting water drops from the air, while additional support has been requested to reinforce ongoing efforts.
A preventive alert was sent via the 112 emergency service to residents in the area, urging them to evacuate. The message reads: ‘If you are in the area, move towards Nea Makri and Marathon. Follow the instructions of the authorities.’
The fire has been contained towards Schinias but continues to spread inland. Reports indicate that flames have extended toward Haras Street, with confirmed damage to two houses. Traffic police have also implemented road closures, halting vehicle movement along Poseidonos Avenue from its intersection with Sophocleous Street up to Euripidou Street.
Emergency services remain on high alert as they work tirelessly to control the situation and ensure public safety.
