Wildfire in Marathon Area at Rizari: Alert Sent via 112 – Residents Asked to Evacuate

A wildfire broke out on Wednesday afternoon (02.07.2025) near Rizari in the Marathon region of Attica, Greece. The fire started around 1 PM in reed beds and low vegetation close to homes and businesses, prompting an immediate response from emergency services. Firefighters rushed to the scene, with 56 firefighters currently deployed alongside two ground teams and 18 vehicles. Three helicopters are conducting water drops from the air. Additional reinforcements have been requested as the fire spreads through a populated area. A preventive alert was sent via the 112 emergency service advising residents to evacuate towards Nea Makri. Authorities are urging citizens to follow official instructions and avoid the affected zone. The blaze has been contained toward Schinias but continues to spread inland. Traffic restrictions are now in place along Poseidonos Avenue between Sophocleous and Euripidou streets.
