A wildfire broke out in an agricultural and forested area in Ahlia, Lasithi region of Crete, on Wednesday afternoon (02/07/2025). Firefighters are currently battling the blaze with 36 firefighters on the ground, including two teams of elite ground units, supported by 12 firetrucks. Two helicopters are also conducting aerial operations to contain the fire.

Around 5 PM local time, Greece’s emergency number 112 issued alerts urging residents to evacuate the areas of Agia Fotia, Ahlia, Gales, and Fermi. The official message from 112 reads: ‘If you are located in the affected areas, move towards Ierapetra and follow the instructions of the authorities.’

Strong winds are reportedly hampering firefighting efforts, as seen in footage shared by Creta24. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and urge citizens to remain alert and follow all safety instructions.
