Wildfire in Keratea: Evacuation Ordered as Flames Threaten Homes

A wildfire broke out late Monday evening (April 28, 2025) in the Dipeliza area of Keratea. Emergency services were alerted, and an evacuation order was issued for residents of Palio Kamari扎 to move toward Lavrio. The fire is raging in a forested area with winds reaching up to 8 Beaufort. According to initial reports, homes are located nearby. Emergency response teams have deployed 76 firefighters with four ground units, 16 vehicles, and volunteers. Water-dropping aircraft from the Hellenic Air Force are also assisting in combating the blaze. At 12:30 AM, the emergency hotline 112 urged residents of Palio Kamari扎 to evacuate towards Lavrio due to the approaching flames. Traffic diversions have been implemented on Leoforos Lavriou at its intersection with Macedonia Street and on 25th March Street near Megalou Alexandrou Street. The fire is spreading through mixed vegetation, including pine trees and olive groves, posing a significant threat to scattered residential areas. Strong winds continue to fan the flames, prompting ongoing reinforcements for firefighting efforts. As of the latest updates, the fire has split into two fronts, one heading toward Leoforos Lavriou and the other toward Plaka and Palio Kamari扎. Residents are advised to follow official instructions.
