Wildfire in Ancient Olympia – Strong Winds Challenge Firefighters

The region of Kameni, near Ancient Olympia, is currently facing a rapidly spreading wildfire that broke out on Friday afternoon (04.07.2025). Fueled by strong winds, the flames have grown uncontrollably, engulfing large areas within a short time. The fire originated from an agricultural area covered with olive trees but quickly spread to a nearby forest, prompting a major response from emergency services using both ground and aerial resources. The situation on the ground is particularly alarming as the fire continues to reignite and create new hotspots, significantly complicating containment efforts. At least three active fronts are being tackled by powerful firefighting units. Reinforcements, including additional equipment and personnel, continue to arrive at the site. According to the latest reports, aerial support has now joined the operation: an Erickson helicopter and Air Tractor aircraft have begun water-dropping operations, providing crucial assistance from the air.
