A wildfire broke out this afternoon (2 July 2026) in an agricultural-forestry area near Strouggyli, a village in the regional unit of Arta, northwestern Greece.
Emergency Alert Issued
At approximately 4:30 p.m., residents in the vicinity received an alert via Greece’s national emergency number, 112. The message read: “Forest fire in the Agios Spyridon area of the Arta regional unit. Remain on standby and follow instructions from authorities.”
Large-Scale Response Underway
To tackle the blaze, the Hellenic Fire Service deployed 26 firefighters, including two infantry teams from the 5th Emergency Response Unit (EMODE). The operation involves eight vehicles, two aircraft (A/F), and two helicopters (E/P). Municipal water tankers are also providing support.
The Fire Service confirmed the incident in a tweet, identifying the location as the community of Strouggyli in Arta and detailing the resources mobilized. The 112 Greece emergency service also shared the alert on social media, directing the public to official updates.
Strong firefighting forces remain actively engaged at the site.
