A wildfire broke out on Monday afternoon, July 13, 2026, on the island of Lesbos, according to stonisi.gr. The blaze ignited in an area of dry grass near Kaló Limáni in Skalochorió — a village on the island’s northern coast — and is reportedly linked to an electricity transmission pole operated by Greece’s Public Power Corporation (PPC, formerly DEDDHE).

Immediate Response Underway

The fire is burning close to the local settlement and a nearby tavern, prompting an urgent deployment of ground-based firefighting units to contain it and prevent further spread.

Aerial Support Mobilized

Two PZL M-18 Dromader firefighting aircraft have already been dispatched to the scene. In addition, a fire-fighting helicopter has been placed on standby and will join operations if needed.

Firefighters are working intensively to bring the blaze under control before it threatens homes or other infrastructure.
