The new faces of the government were announced today, Friday (13.03.25) by the government spokesperson, Paulos Marinakis, as part of the reshuffle conducted by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. One of the critical portfolios, that of Transport, will be taken over by Christos Dimas. It’s worth noting that Christos Dimas succeeds Christos Staikouras. This is a challenging task, given the significant political cost the government faces due to its handling of the tragedy at Tempi. Christos Dimas, until recently Deputy Minister of Finance, is a lawyer and Member of Parliament for Corinth with New Democracy. He entered politics in 2012. Born on May 29, 1980, he graduated from the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Queen Mary University in London. He earned his Master’s in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Subsequently, he completed his Ph.D. in European Politics from LSE with a scholarship from the Alexander Onassis Foundation. His doctoral thesis title is: ‘The significance of national institutional frameworks and domestic consultation during proposed reforms: The case of the privatization of national telecommunications in Greece and Ireland.’ Professionally, while studying, he worked as a correspondent in London for the newspaper ‘I Apogevmatini’ and practiced journalism at the BBC. At the age of 25, he taught as an assistant professor at LSE to first-year students in ‘Introduction to Political Science.’ He also taught postgraduate students at ICON College of the University of Leicester about ‘Social Impacts of Mass Media’ and was a scientific collaborator at the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence. He has scientific publications in Greek and international journals. Before running for office, he worked in the private sector as a business consultant at ‘The Boston Consulting Group (BCG)’, a strategic advisory firm. In the May and June 2012 elections, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Corinth with New Democracy and has been re-elected since. From July 2019 to May 2023, he served as Deputy Minister of Development and Investments, responsible for Research & Innovation. From June 2023 to June 2024, he was Deputy Minister of Culture, responsible for Contemporary Culture issues. Since June 2024 until now, he served as Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance. He is married to lawyer Nikoleta Syregela, and they have one daughter and a son.
