The White House thanked Elon Musk for his services with a brief announcement, reflecting the strained recent relations with U.S. President Donald Trump. The White House statement focused on reducing government spending during Trump’s administration. “We thank him for his work. We thank him for introducing DOGE (i.e., the committee name for government efficiency) and efforts to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse will continue,” said White House representative Carolyn Levitt to reporters. Members of the cabinet council in Trump’s administration will collaborate with the Office of Government Efficiency staff across various federal services to promote ongoing efforts, stated the spokesperson. The secretaries of the cabinet council ‘are working closely with Elon Musk and will continue to collaborate with politically appointed DOGE staff in all these services,’ said the White House Press Secretary. The representative declined further comment on Trump’s departure, who criticized his former ally Musk this week. Musk announced Wednesday that he had completed his mission to cut public spending after four months of unprecedented experimentation. ‘As my term as a special government employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for giving me the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,’ wrote the entrepreneur on his social media platform X. ‘The DOGE mission will be further strengthened in the future to become a way of life in government,’ said the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and platform X.
