Just before the formal end of this year’s campaign to CLEAN THE MEDITERRANEAN, the MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network completes their…
major cleanups with the organisation of an action with high social and symbolic value. More specifically, on Saturday 25 June, the organization will be found on the beach Ηράκλη, in Rovies of north. Evia, where you will implement cleaning along with about 50 refugees from Syria, which are hosted there along with their families. The hosting program of the refugees is implemented by the solidarity-Solidarity Now with the support of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the financing of the EU.
MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network since its inception has supported and promoted through programmes and actions communication between the peoples of the Mediterranean dialogue and the acquaintance of the cultures, breaking away from stereotypes that lead to fear of the stranger and the different. In the current historical conjuncture and to the desperate attempt of hundreds of thousands of our fellow human beings in search of a new “homeland” in which to be able to live with security and dignity, the MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network, along with many other environmental and non-governmental organisations, sharing the absolute conviction of the need for the integration of refugees through education and familiarity with Greek society. In this context, the cleaning action which will be implemented in Rovies, seeks to give the stigma of harmonious coexistence and cooperation, acquaintance of the young refugees with actions for the protection of our common home: the Mediterranean.
The action will also join collectives and organizations of the region, such as the Cultural Association Ροβίων and the Dance Club “Οροβίαι”. At the same time, the action will be supported logistically by the Local Community Ροβίων, while the company Slalom will provide the children commemorative hats.
