A distress call was raised late on Tuesday, 7 July, in Western Achaea after the decomposed body of a man was discovered in a remote, hard-to-reach ravine near the village of Petrochori.
The body was found by a local woman who operates a stable in the area and immediately alerted authorities.
Police units, a forensic doctor, an EKAB (National Emergency Medical Service) team, and a detachment of the 6th EMAK (Special Disaster Response Unit) rushed to the scene. The EMAK team led the operation to retrieve the body from the difficult terrain.
According to preliminary findings, there is no evidence so far pointing to criminal activity. Investigators are exploring all possible scenarios—including whether the remains belong to a 60-year-old man from Lower Achaea, whose disappearance had been reported just hours earlier.
Formal identification is expected following forensic and laboratory examinations. Meanwhile, police continue their preliminary investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
