Weather Update: Temperature Drop, Rain, and Thunderstorms Expected from Sunday – How Long Will the ‘Mini’ Autumn Last?

The weather is changing again as after the summer-like days of the past week, temperatures will drop while rain and thunderstorms are forecasted from Sunday (May 11, 2025) through almost the entire following week. The weather from Sunday onwards will be unstable, with temperatures slightly below average for this time of year in the coming days. According to ERT meteorologist Anastasia Tyrasi, from Sunday until Wednesday (May 14, 2025), there will be instability with local gusts or isolated thunderstorms overland during the hottest hours of the day. On Thursday and Friday, a low-pressure system from the central Mediterranean will bring rain across nearly the entire country. Specific forecasts indicate that on Sunday, Macedonia will experience clouds with local showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. In the rest of the country, sunny intervals are expected with passing clouds and localized showers in the afternoon in mainly mountainous inland areas, possibly on Ionian islands and northern Aegean by evening. Winds will vary between 3-4 Beaufort, with northerly winds reaching 5-6 Beaufort in the Aegean. Temperatures will range from 20-23°C in the north to 24-26°C elsewhere. In Attica, sunny intervals are predicted with passing clouds mainly in the afternoon, northerly winds up to 5 Beaufort with some weakening, and temperatures from 14 to 26°C. Thessaloniki will see clouds, local showers, and possibly isolated thunderstorms, southeasterly winds at 3-4 Beaufort, with temperatures ranging from 14 to 22°C. This trend continues into Monday with passing clouds and local showers expected in Crete, inland areas, mainly in the mountains in the afternoon, possibly in the Ionian and northern Aegean.
