A ‘red alert’ for high temperatures will be in effect across Greece over the next 24 hours due to a heatwave expected from Monday (7.7.25) through Wednesday (9.7.25), with thermometers soaring between 39 and 42 degrees Celsius. The Emergency Weather Update issued by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) on Friday regarding the upcoming heatwave was updated Sunday afternoon, based on the latest forecasting data.
Very high temperatures are predicted in Greece from today, Sunday (06-07-25) until Wednesday (09-07-25). The highest values (maximums exceeding 40 degrees) will occur from Monday in the interior regions of continental Greece. A noticeable drop in temperature is expected nationwide starting Thursday.
In coastal areas of mainland Greece, maximum temperatures will be 2 to 4 degrees lower compared to inland areas. Humidity levels will remain low, around 20% to 30% during midday hours in the interior parts of continental Greece.
Minimum temperatures on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in urban centers will remain high, ranging around 27 to 29 degrees Celsius.
According to EMY forecasts:
– Today, Sunday, high temperatures will dominate throughout the mainland and the Ionian Islands. Maximum temperatures will reach:
– Macedonia, Thessaly, Epirus, and western Central Greece: 38 to 39, locally reaching 40°C.
– Eastern Central Greece and Peloponnese: 37 to 39°C.
– Ionian Islands and Thrace: 36 to 38°C.
– On Monday, high temperatures will also affect the eastern islands. Maximums will reach:
– Mainland Greece: 39 to 40, locally up to 41°C.
– Ionian Islands, Eastern Aegean Islands, and the Dodecanese: 36 to 38°C.
– On Tuesday, a slight increase (about 1 to 2°C) is expected in eastern mainland and the Aegean, while no significant change is anticipated in the Ionian and western mainland areas. Maximums will reach:
– Eastern mainland, locally: 41 to 42°C.
– Western mainland: 37 to 39, locally 40°C.
– Ionian Islands: 35 to 37°C.
– Eastern Aegean Islands and Dodecanese: 38°C.
– On Wednesday, a slight decrease in temperatures is expected in the Ionian and western mainland areas, while they will remain at similarly high levels in eastern mainland and the Aegean.
