A ‘red alert’ is expected across Greece over the next 24 hours as a heatwave hits the country from Monday (7.7.25) through Wednesday (9.7.25), with temperatures soaring between 39 and 42 degrees Celsius. The National Meteorological Service (EMY) issued an updated bulletin on Sunday afternoon regarding the extreme weather forecast, building upon the earlier warning released on Friday. Extremely high temperatures are predicted in Greece from today, Sunday (06-07-25), until Wednesday (09-07-25). The highest values (maximums above 40 degrees) will be recorded from Monday in inland areas of continental Greece. A noticeable drop in temperature is expected nationwide from Thursday. Coastal areas of mainland Greece will see maximum temperatures 2 to 4 degrees lower than those recorded inland. Humidity levels will remain low, particularly in inland regions, where they may fall to approximately 20% to 30% during midday hours. Minimum temperatures in urban centers on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will remain high, ranging between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius. According to EMY’s forecast, today’s high temperatures will dominate across all inland areas and the Ionian Sea. Maximum values will reach: 38 to 39 and locally up to 40 degrees Celsius in Macedonia, Thessaly, Epirus, and western Central Greece; 37 to 39 degrees Celsius in eastern Central Greece and the Peloponnese; and 36 to 38 degrees Celsius in the Ionian Islands and Thrace. On Monday, high temperatures will also affect the eastern insular region, reaching 39 to 40 and locally 41 degrees Celsius in continental Greece, and 36 to 38 degrees Celsius in the Ionian Islands, islands of the Eastern Aegean, and the Dodecanese. On Tuesday, a slight increase of around 1 to 2 degrees is expected in eastern inland areas and the Aegean, while no significant change is anticipated in the Ionian and western inland areas. Maximum temperatures will reach up to 41 to 42 degrees Celsius in eastern inland areas, 37 to 40 degrees Celsius in western inland areas, 35 to 37 degrees Celsius in the Ionian Islands, and 38 degrees Celsius in the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese. On Wednesday, a small decrease in high temperatures is expected in the Ionian and western inland areas, while temperatures will remain at similarly high levels in eastern inland areas and the Aegean.
