Tomorrow, Saturday 16 May, will bring rainy conditions across much of Greece, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY). African dust is also expected to return, particularly affecting southern regions including the Peloponnese, the Cyclades, and Crete.
Regional Forecast
In western, central, and northern Greece—and from the afternoon in the northern and eastern Aegean—cloud cover will increase, with scattered showers. Isolated thunderstorms are forecast for the Ionian Islands, and from midday onwards for Epirus, western Central Greece, and Macedonia. These storms may briefly become strong, especially before evening. From late afternoon, similar activity is expected in the northern and eastern Aegean. By nightfall, precipitation will be largely confined to northeastern areas, while most other regions will see conditions improve.
Meteorological conditions favour the transport of Saharan dust to southern Greece, potentially leading to hazy skies and muddy rain—especially in the Peloponnese, Cyclades, and Crete.
Wind and Temperature
Winds will blow from southern directions at 3–5 on the Beaufort scale, reaching up to 6 near open seas. From the afternoon, winds will gradually shift to west-northwest across western Greece, then progressively across central and southern areas—maintaining the same intensity.
Temperatures will rise slightly: reaching 22–24°C in the Ionian Islands, Cyclades, and northern Aegean; 24–26°C elsewhere; and locally 27–28°C in eastern mainland areas and Crete.
Macedonia & Thrace
In Thrace, skies will start clear but cloud over by midday, bringing isolated showers or light rain. In Macedonia, clouds will build rapidly, with scattered showers developing—and from noon, isolated thunderstorms, possibly brief but intense, until the afternoon. Conditions will improve by evening.
Winds: southerly, 3–5 Beaufort, increasing to 6 briefly in eastern areas overnight.
Temperatures: 13–25°C—with western Macedonia 2–3°C cooler.
Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Central Greece, Western Peloponnese
Increased cloudiness with local rain. Scattered thunderstorms are expected across the Ionian Islands and, from midday, over Epirus and western Central Greece—potentially brief but strong until evening. Improvement is expected after dark.
Winds: south-southwesterly, 4–6 Beaufort, shifting gradually to west-northwest from the afternoon, maintaining strength.
Temperatures: 15–25°C—with inland Epirus 3–4°C cooler.
Thessaly, Eastern Central Greece, Evia, Eastern Peloponnese
Intermittently increased cloud cover with local rain. Scattered thunderstorms are likely during midday and afternoon hours—mainly over mountainous areas of Thessaly and eastern Central Greece. Conditions will improve by night.
Winds: southerly, 3–5 Beaufort, shifting to west-northwest across central and southern areas from the afternoon.
Temperatures: 10–26°C, reaching 27–28°C locally.
Cyclades & Crete
Clouds will increase temporarily, with isolated showers and possibly a few isolated thunderstorms until midday—followed by gradual improvement.
