Weather Today: Severe Storms in West Greece – Local Rain in Athens & Thessaloniki

Heavy thunderstorms are expected today (January 31, 2026) across western Greece, intensifying during evening hours, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY). Local rain and isolated thunderstorms will affect Attica and Thessaloniki in the morning, gradually clearing. Light snowfall is forecast for mountainous areas in central and northern Greece. Elsewhere, cloud cover will increase temporarily with scattered showers—mainly in the Aegean islands until noon—but most regions will see precipitation end by late afternoon. Winds will be westerly-southwesterly (4–6 Bf) in southern areas, easterly-northeasterly (3–5 Bf) in the north, shifting to southeasterly (6 Bf) over the Ionian Sea at night. Temperatures remain stable: up to 12–14°C in the north, 15–17°C in the Ionian and mainland, 18–19°C in the southern Aegean, and locally 20°C in the Dodecanese.
