The weather is deteriorating starting today, Sunday (25.01.2026), with three consecutive storm waves expected to strike the country in the coming days. Data from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) indicate prolonged periods of rain, strong winds, and localized intense weather phenomena across several regions. According to meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas, atmospheric disturbances will follow one after another without significant breaks. He forecasts persistent and frequent rainfall, while southerly winds will keep temperatures above seasonal averages. On Monday, particularly strong weather is expected in western, northern Greece, and the eastern Aegean, with a heightened risk of heavy downpours. Sakis Arnaoutoglou notes that today’s brief improvement with sunshine gives way to worsening conditions. The first storm system will initially affect the eastern Aegean before moving to the Ionian Sea, where winds may reach up to 7 Beaufort, especially around Corfu and nearby islands. From Monday, gale-force winds will spread nationwide, potentially disrupting ferry services. Intense weather is forecast for Kavala, Xanthi, Drama, Thasos, and Attica, where rains and thunderstorms—accompanied by strong winds and a noticeable temperature drop—are expected until midday. Severe conditions are also predicted in southern Crete and southwestern Greece, with lower temperatures than in previous days. On Monday (26.01.2026), skies will be heavily overcast with widespread rain and isolated thunderstorms beginning in the west and north, gradually spreading elsewhere.
