The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the relevant service departments involved, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, in order to be in increased political protection readiness in order to address the impact of the event of intense weather events. At the same time, according to the Fire Department, operational plans are being put in place to address risks arising from flooding and snowfalls and their accompanying phenomena, while the Fire Services of the areas expected to occur have been put in a state of increased readiness and further escalation if necessary, in order to address immediate problems. In particular, in areas where intense rainfall, storms or storm winds are foreseen, the GGP recommends to citizens: -Insured objects which if swept away by intense weather phenomena may cause disasters or injuries. – Make sure the gutters and gutters of the houses are not blocked and operate properly. – Avoid crossing torrents and streams, pedestrian or by vehicle, during storms and rainfall, but also for several hours after the end of their event – Avoid outdoor work and activities in sea and coastal areas during the event of severe weather phenomena (risk of thunderfalls). – Protect them immediately during a hailfall. To resort to a building or to a car and not leave the safe place, unless they make sure the storm passed. The hailfall can be very dangerous for animals as well. – Avoid crossing under large trees, under posted signs and generally from areas where light objects (e.g. pots, broken windows, etc.) can be detached and fall to the ground (e.g. under balconies). – Follow closely the instructions of local competent bodies, such as Traffic etc. In areas where snow and frost are predicted: If you are going to move by car: – To be informed about the weather and the condition of the road network – to have non-slip chains in their vehicle and tank full of fuel – Travel, if necessary, preferably during the day preferring the main roads – To inform their relatives of the route they are to follow – Change their travel schedule to avoid the peak of weather events – Follow closely the instructions of local competent bodies, such as traffic etc. If they move on foot: – Dress with many layers of light clothing instead of a heavy garment and wear suitable shoes to avoid injuries due to slippage – Avoid unnecessary movements during peak events (intense snowfall, frost conditions) For information and announcements on the current state and the naturality of the road network due to flooding in it or because of snowfalls and frost, citizens can visit the EL.A. website www.astynomia.gr.
