After a brief summer respite with temperatures even below seasonal averages, the mercury is set to rise again as a five-day heatwave is expected, with temperatures surpassing 40 degrees Celsius. In fact, these high temperatures will persist for several days. According to weather forecasts, conditions will begin to warm up starting Sunday, with temperatures remaining at unusually high levels until Wednesday, after which they will drop significantly. The most challenging day will be Wednesday, when temperatures will climb above 40 degrees Celsius, reaching as high as 42 degrees in areas like Chalkida. For today, Thursday (03.07.2025), the weather will generally be clear, with local cloudiness over western and northern mountainous regions during midday and afternoon hours. Winds in the west will be variable at 3 to 4 Beaufort, while in the Ionian Sea and western coastal areas, northwesterly winds will blow temporarily during the midday and afternoon hours with the same intensity. In the eastern regions, northerly winds will range between 4 to 6 Beaufort, reaching up to 8 Beaufort locally in central and southern Aegean waters. Temperature levels will remain largely unchanged, reaching 29 to 30 degrees Celsius in the Cyclades, Sporades, and Crete, 33 to 35 degrees in inland areas, the rest of the island regions, and southern Crete, and locally rising to 36 to 37 degrees in inland areas and the Dodecanese. Looking ahead, Friday (04.07.2025) will also feature mostly clear skies with local cloudiness in the mountainous northwest during the afternoon. Winds will come from northern directions at 3 to 4 Beaufort, reaching up to 5 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea, and 4 to 6 Beaufort in eastern areas, with gusts up to 7 Beaufort in parts of the Aegean. Temperatures will see a slight increase, peaking at 33 to 35 degrees in the Ionian Sea, inland areas, and southern Crete, with local highs of 37 to 38 degrees, while in the Cyclades it will remain around 27 to 29 degrees. Saturday (05.07.2025) will bring generally clear weather, with clouds forming over northern mountains during the afternoon and possibly some short-lived showers. Winds will remain moderate in western areas, while stronger northerly winds continue in the east. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly once more. On Sunday (06.07.2025), conditions will remain mostly sunny, with isolated thunderstorms possible in the mountainous northwest during the afternoon. Winds will remain steady, with no significant temperature change. Monday (07.07.2025) will also be mainly sunny, with local cloudiness and a chance of showers in mountainous areas. Winds will pick up slightly in open waters.
