Meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis warns of high or extreme fire risk on Wednesday as temperatures soar above 40°C. He emphasizes that the heatwave expected on Tuesday, July 8th, and Wednesday, July 9th, will bring scorching temperatures, with the mercury rising beyond 40°C in some areas. On Wednesday, stormy winds will contribute to a very high or even extreme fire risk.
In his weather update, he notes, ‘With temperatures on the rise, the new week begins, bringing extremely hot conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday, with local temperatures surpassing 40°C. This intense heat wave will be accompanied by locally stormy northwesterly winds on Wednesday, creating a dangerous combination of dry surfaces and strong winds, leading to a significant or even extreme fire risk.’
According to Meteo’s forecast, Greece will experience sunny skies and high temperatures throughout the country, with western winds reaching up to 5 Beaufort in the South Aegean.
On Monday, July 7th, excellent weather conditions and high temperatures are expected nationwide. During the hottest hours of the day, clouds will develop over mountainous inland regions. Temperature ranges across different regions include:
– Western Macedonia: 16°C to 34–36°C
– Rest of Macedonia and Thrace: 18°C to 36–39°C, locally reaching 39°C
– Thessaly: 16°C to 38–40°C, locally up to 41°C
– Western Greece: 21°C to 36–38°C
– Rest of inland areas: 22°C to 37–39°C, locally reaching 40°C
– Ionian Islands: 20°C to 33–34°C
– Aegean islands and Crete: 21°C to 32–34°C
– Eastern Aegean islands: up to 37–39°C
In Central, Eastern, and Northern Aegean, winds will come from northwesterly directions at 3–4 Beaufort, while in the South Aegean, westerly winds may reach up to 6 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea, westerly winds will blow at intensities of 3–4 Beaufort.
In Attica, expect sunny skies and intense heat, with variable winds at 2–4 Beaufort and temperatures ranging from 26°C to 38–39°C. In Thessaloniki, sunny conditions with few clouds during the hottest part of the day, southern winds at 2–4 Beaufort, and temperatures between 26°C and 36°C.
