The summer-like weather of the past few days, marked by very high temperatures for this time of year, is coming to an end. A near-autumnal weather pattern with showers, northerly winds, and cooler temperatures is set to take its place. The change in weather is attributed to an incoming polar air mass. The shift will begin on Saturday (May 10, 2025), bringing a ‘premature autumn’ with rains across the country. Weather instability is expected to persist into the new week.
According to ERT meteorologist Nikoleta Ziakopoulou, temperatures will gradually drop from north to south over the weekend. On Saturday, intermittent clouds with showers or thunderstorms are anticipated in the northern regions during the morning and in mountainous areas at noon. Northerly winds could reach up to 6 Beaufort. Central and northern daytime temperatures will reach around 23°C, while other areas may see highs of up to 29°C. In Attica, sporadic cloudiness is forecast with a slight chance of rain in the afternoon. Winds will be northerly up to 5 Beaufort, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 27°C.
In Thessaloniki, there will be intermittent showers or thunderstorms, with northerly winds up to 5 Beaufort and temperatures between 14°C and 22°C. Sunday (May 11, 2025) will bring localized cloudiness with showers, mainly in the mountains. Northerly winds could reach up to 6 Beaufort, with temperatures up to 25°C.
The weather forecast indicates that Macedonia and Thrace will experience increased cloudiness with local showers and scattered thunderstorms, particularly strong in some eastern areas until midday. In the northern Aegean, Cyclades, Crete, and Dodecanese, there will be occasional cloudiness with local showers. Elsewhere in the country, the weather will initially be clear but will develop clouds in inland areas, especially in Thessaly, Evia, eastern Sterea, and eastern Peloponnese, where local showers or downpours and isolated thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon.
Winds will blow from northerly directions at 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally reaching up to 6 Beaufort in the seas, except in the southeastern Aegean where southeasterly winds will prevail at 4 to 6 Beaufort. Temperatures will slightly decrease, remaining high only in southern areas, reaching 20-22°C in the north, 24-26°C in other regions, and locally 28-29°C in Crete.
