Weather Forecast: Holy Thursday with Rising Temperatures and African Dust – Detailed Prediction Until Easter Monday

in

The weather on April 17, 2025, will be unstable but won’t deter Easter travelers who are leaving the cities for the countryside and islands. Throughout the rest of the Holy Week, temperatures will rise to higher levels, even flirting with 30 degrees Celsius. On Holy Thursday, rain is expected in northern Ionian and Epirus regions, while the rest of the country will enjoy good weather. On Good Friday (April 18), isolated showers of short duration are forecasted mainly in western Macedonia and Epirus. Local showers may occur on Holy Saturday (April 19) only in eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and possibly in the northeastern Aegean. Easter Sunday might see weak local showers in the northern-eastern mountainous areas during midday and afternoon. By Easter Monday (April 21), nearly clear skies are anticipated across most of Greece.

An impressive phenomenon expected on Holy Thursday is the significant transport of African dust reaching several parts of Eastern Europe, as noted by Kostas Lagouvardos, Director of Research at the National Observatory of Athens. High concentrations are likely over the Ionian Sea and Western Greece. The EMY meteorological bulletin predicts a generally clear sky with sparse clouds in the east and south. However, clouds will increase in the west and north, leading to localized showers or downpours in northern Ionian and Epirus from the afternoon onward. Visibility may be locally restricted or foggy in inland areas during morning and evening hours. Meteorological conditions favor the transport of African dust. Winds in the west will blow southeasterly at 5-7 Beaufort, locally up to 8 in the Ionian Sea. In the east, winds will be easterly to northeasterly at 3-5 Beaufort, occasionally reaching 6 in Thrace in the morning. Temperatures will slightly rise further above normal levels, reaching 25-27°C in the west and 23-26°C elsewhere.
