A significant weather change is expected across Greece tomorrow, Friday, 24 July 2026, beginning in western and northern regions before gradually spreading nationwide. According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), widespread heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast — with some areas facing particularly intense conditions.
Areas at Highest Risk
The most severe weather is expected in:
- Central Macedonia — including the prefectures of Pieria, Imathia, Chalkidiki, and Thessaloniki — from late morning until late evening (orange alert).
- Eastern Thessaly — covering Larissa and Magnesia — from noon through late night (orange alert), with especially dangerous conditions over sea and coastal zones (red alert).
- The Sporades and Evia — particularly central and northern parts — from noon onward (red alert).
- Eastern Central Greece, including Attica, from late afternoon into the evening (orange alert).
- Northeastern Aegean islands — including Lemnos, Thasos, and Samothrace — from late evening (orange alert).
Additional Hazards
Storms will be accompanied by localized strong gusty winds (squalls), frequent lightning, and a risk of hail in several areas.
Wind Conditions
Winds will blow from northerly directions at 4–6 Beaufort across most regions. Locally, they may reach 7 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea and southeastern Aegean.
Temperature Drop
Temperatures will fall noticeably. Maximums are expected to reach 29–30°C in northern Greece, 30–32°C elsewhere, and 33°C in Crete and the Dodecanese.
Attica
Skies will start partly cloudy but cloud cover will increase rapidly, giving way to showers and isolated thunderstorms — locally intense — during the afternoon and into the evening. Winds will be variable at 3–4 Beaufort, shifting to northerly at up to 5 Beaufort after dark. Temperatures will range from 22°C to 30°C.
Thessaloniki
Cloudy skies with rain and scattered thunderstorms, becoming locally intense from late morning through the afternoon. Winds will start variable (3–4 Beaufort), then shift to northwesterly, strengthening to 4–6 Beaufort by afternoon. Temperatures will range from 20°C to 28°C.
Macedonia & Thrace
Cloudy with rain and isolated thunderstorms. Strongest activity is expected in central Macedonia (Pieria, Imathia, Chalkidiki, Thessaloniki) from late morning until late evening, and on Thasos and Samothrace from late evening. Conditions will ease in western areas starting in the evening. Winds will begin variable (3–4 Beaufort), then strengthen from northerly directions to 4–6 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 18°C to 29–30°C — with western Macedonia seeing lows 3–4°C cooler than average.
