The hottest day is anticipated to be Sunday, though the latest weather models suggest this heatwave will be relatively short-lived. A noticeable cooldown is expected from the start of next week.

Most of the country is enjoying clear, summery conditions with abundant sunshine. Only isolated, light cloud cover is expected in northeastern Greece and southern Peloponnese, where there’s a slight chance of brief, weak thunderstorms. Winds remain strong — particularly in the eastern and southeastern Aegean — reaching 6–7 on the Beaufort scale. Near Karpathos, gusts may briefly hit 8 Beaufort. Due to these conditions and extremely dry vegetation, the fire risk remains very high — especially in eastern Crete and the southeastern Aegean islands.
Temperatures today will range between 34°C and 36°C nationwide, with local peaks of 37°C–38°C in Rhodes and parts of eastern Greece. In Attica, skies will be mostly clear, with only scattered, thin clouds over northern areas in the morning. Maximum temperatures will reach 34°C, and winds will blow up to 5 Beaufort — locally 6 near Cape Sounion (Kafireas). Thessaloniki will see sunny skies, with light cloudiness developing toward Chalkidiki; highs up to 33°C and light to moderate, variable winds.
Midweek Outlook: Heat Intensifies
Temperatures will continue climbing — especially inland. In the lowlands of Thessaly, Central Greece, Macedonia, and Argolis, readings are expected to climb to 37°C–39°C. Winds in the Aegean will remain at 6–7 Beaufort. Weather activity will be minimal, with only isolated, brief thunderstorms possible in northern mountainous areas.
Friday and Saturday: Peak Heat Approaches
Heat will remain intense, with temperatures holding steady at 38°C–39°C. Around Agrinio, the first 40°C reading of the season cannot be ruled out. At the same time, atmospheric instability will increase over northern mountains, triggering a few isolated thunderstorms. Northerly winds will persist at 6–7 Beaufort in the eastern and southeastern Aegean, and will also strengthen over eastern mainland Greece — further elevating wildfire risk.
Saturday and Sunday, 18–19 July 2026
The weekend is set to mark the peak of this heat episode. While conditions will remain largely dry and sunny, elevated temperatures — especially on Sunday — will dominate the forecast. However, signs point to a swift transition: from Monday onward, a clear drop in temperatures is expected across much of the country.
