CORVERSE According to meteorologists in some areas, the snow height can reach half a meter, stressing that throughout Western Macedonia, Sunday and Monday, it will snow. Areas with dense snowfall: – Western Macedonia (Florina, Ptolemaida, Kozani, Grevena) H – Edessa, Veria, Katerini – Giannina, Metsovo – Karditsa (400 m) – Kalavryta The lowlands of northern Greece will be “dressed” in white on Monday. Specifically, Thessaloniki, Kilkis, Drama, Xanthi and Komotini. Crumpy cold will prevail throughout the country but also in Attica. Progressively the rains will expand to most regions of the country, while in Ionion, Epirus, and Western mainland, there will be significant increases and strong storms will occur locally. By the end of the day storms will also occur in the east and south and in places in the Aegean. Dense snowfalls will occur in the continental mountains, gradually in semi-mountain parts of Central and Northern Greece, as well as throughout Western Macedonia. In the evening it will also snow in low altitude areas in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace. Snowfalls will be locally severe. The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from -6 to 2 points, in the rest of northern Greece from -1 to 8 points, in Thessaly from 4 to 14, Epirus from 6 to 16 points, in the rest continentals from 8 to 16-18, in the Ionian Islands from 11 to 17 degrees, in the islands of the North Aegean from 6 to 15, in the rest of the Aegean islands from 11 to 17-18 degrees and in Crete from 10 to 22 degrees Celsius. On the morning of Saturday 11/01 extraordinary meetings were held to coordinate forces in the areas heavily awaited weather phenomena. In Thessaloniki they prepare for the bad weather with 1,000 tons of salt for the city and 4,000 tonnes for Central Macedonia. 2,000 tonnes are available for the municipality of Hortiati – Pylaia where they expect heavy snowfall.
